A question about Christopher Paolini's Eragon?

Do you think there's some significance to the fact that if you replace the "E" in Eragon with a "D" you get Dragon?

Yes there is. In the book the original Eragon was a Dragon Rider, as is the main character. There are several parallels between the two Eragon's and their dragons.
